Death Insurance

In the event of the insured individual’s death, the CNAS (National Social Insurance Fund) pays a death benefit to the beneficiaries, who are:

  • The spouse.
  • Dependent children.
  • Dependent ascendants (parents, grandparents).

Condition for granting the death benefit: The insured person must have worked 15 days during the 03 months preceding the date of death.

Required documents:

In all cases:

  • A request for a death benefit (Download the document..)
  • A sworn statement attesting that there are no other beneficiaries apart from those mentioned in the request.
  • A death certificate extract.
  • A family civil status form.
  • The insured individual’s CHIFA card (health insurance card).
  • A work and salary certificate for the 12 months preceding the death.
  • Document justifying beneficiary status.

Amount of the death benefit

For employees:

  • 12 times the amount of the most favorable monthly salary subject to contributions received during the year preceding the death.
  • This amount cannot be less than 12 times the National Minimum Guaranteed Salary.

For pension and annuity holders >= 50%:

  • 12 times the monthly amount of the pension or annuity.
  • This amount cannot be less than 75% of the National Minimum Guaranteed Salary.

How is the death benefit paid?

  • It is settled in a single payment.
  • In case of multiple beneficiaries, it is distributed equally among them.

 

Either by:

  • Bank cheque
  • CCP (Postal Current Account) – bank transfer

IMPORTANT

The amount of the death benefit cannot be claimed beyond 4 years from the date of death.
