Disability insurance

Disability benefits are granted under the following conditions:

  • You must present a sick leave or be unable to work for at least 50% of the time
  • You must not have reached the legal retirement age
  • You must provide proof of a specific period of employment

IMPORTANT

Your disability insurance entitlements are reviewed at the end of the period during which you received daily sickness insurance benefits.

Disability is classified into three (3) categories:

  • Category 1: disabled individuals capable of performing paid work
  • 2nd Category: disabled individuals who are completely unable to perform paid work
  • 3rd Category: disabled individuals who are completely unable to perform any activity and who require the assistance of a third party (to help them perform everyday tasks such as eating, dressing, washing, etc.)

The disability pension is figured like this:

  • Category 1: 60% of your yearly salary that you pay taxes and social security on, after taking out taxes and social security contributions
  • Category 2: 80% of your yearly salary that you pay taxes and social security on, after taking out taxes and social security contributions
  • Category 3: 80% of the annual salary subject to contributions after deduction of tax and social security contributions, plus a 40% increase in the pension.

Your disability pension is paid monthly in arrears.

IMPORTANT

  • The disability pension of a died insured individual is paid to his beneficiaries, as defined by law.
  • Disability pensions are revalued by the regulations in force.
  • The annual amount of the disability pension cannot be less than 75% of the annual amount of the National Minimum Guaranteed Salary.
  • The disability pension is replaced from retirement age by a retirement pension of at least the same amount.
