Prevention Missions

As part of its mission to prevent work accidents and occupational diseases, the CNAS may carry out preventive actions in accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 97-424 of November 11, 1997, setting out the conditions for the application of Title V of Law No. 83-13 of July 2, 1983, as amended and supplemented, relating to the prevention from work accidents and occupational diseases. Executive Decree No. 97-424 establishes:

• The missions of the CNAS in this area;
• The role of the CNAS’s Board of Directors, which includes a committee dedicated to the prevention of occupational risks;
• the areas of focus for the prevention action programme;

In this regard, the fund is responsible for ensuring:

• compliance with legislation and regulations on the prevention of accidents at work and occupational diseases;
• control of expenditure on accidents at work and occupational diseases;

The CNAS action programme focuses on contributing to the promotion of the prevention of work accidents and occupational diseases. Actions are carried out directly by the fund’s structures throughout the country or in partnership with other prevention organisations.

The action programme includes the implementation of all or part of the following actions:

• Participating in the study and organisation of the monitoring of the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases;
• Participating in the study and development of general or specific measures required for the prevention of occupational risks;
• Conducting and participating in surveys and inspections of employers and notifying the results to all the relevant authorities and organisations
• Participating in the development of institutions for study and research in the field of occupational accident and disease prevention;
• Concluding agreements and/or granting loans or subsidies to institutions responsible for implementing occupational risk prevention policy;
• Carrying out and/or participating in the provision of information and awareness-raising by all the necessary means to promote occupational risk prevention methods in companies and wherever else necessary;
• Assisting companies with limited capacity to organise occupational health and safety at workplace and occupational disease prevention  services as well as  participating in the training activities related to ccupational risk prevention;
• Notifying employers, on the basis of the conclusions of investigations and inspections, of the necessary and justified occupational risk prevention measures to be taken and monitoring their implementation;
• Compiling and disseminating technical and technological statistics about workplace accidents, their causes, locations, circumstances, frequency and impacts.
