The educational medical center for people with motor disabilities in Messerghin was inaugurated on March 14, 1985. Initially managed by the National Social Insurance Fund of the Salaried Workers (CNAS), then, it was transferred in 1986 to the Social Protection Services, then returned to CNAS under Decree No. 217-92 dated May 23, 1992, upon the proposal of the sector’s minister, with the aim of expanding its activities to include medical and surgical services.

The specialized orthopedic and rehabilitation clinic in Messerghin provides both medical and surgical care for work accident victims. Its organization is defined by Executive Decree No. 05-89 of February 6, 2005, which outlines the forms of health and social activities of social security bodies, and the decision dated on June 11, 2006, which sets the conditions for the creation, organization, operation, and funding of health and social structures and pharmacies under social security institutions.

The facility is built on a 4 hectare plot, with 7,400 square meters of constructed space. It includes a specialized consultation unit, a surgery and intensive care wing, hospitalization wards, a traditional radiology unit, a biological analysis laboratory, a prosthetics unit, a pharmacy, a mortuary, a medical waste incinerator, and a school adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. It also features an administrative wing, staff housing, a technical workshop for carpentry and welding, a central kitchen, and a laundry.

The clinic is staffed with medical, paramedical, and educational personnel. It contributes to the national social security strategy by helping control healthcare costs, reducing the need to send patients abroad for treatment, and supporting national health efforts.
