Family allowances

Family benefits, which include family allowances and education allowances, represent a supplementary income that can help salaried workers with families to meet the specific needs of their children.

Beneficiaries of family allowances:

The beneficiaries of family allowances are children, however, children assert their rights through a person who meets the conditions for entitlement to family allowances, who is, as a general rule, the beneficiary or, in some cases, the recipient.

1 – Eligibility of beneficiaries:

  • Children born within marriage or those who one of the spouses may have from a previous relationship.
  • Grandchildren and collateral relatives (brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces).
  • Foster children.

2 – Age requirements:

The age limit for receiving family allowances is:

  • 17 years old in all cases.
  • 21 years old for:
  • Children in apprenticeships if their remuneration does not exceed half of the National Minimum Guaranteed Salary.
  • Children who regularly attend a primary, secondary, technical or vocational educational institution.
  • Children who are unable to work or pursue their studies due to disability or chronic illness.
  • Girls who replace their died mother for a brother or sister.

Documents to be provided:

In all cases:

  • A family allowance application form duly completed by the employer.
  • A family civil status form.
  • A crossed cheque

For working recipients:

A certificate of employment and salary.

For inactive beneficiaries:

A certificate of social security benefits

For children over 17 years of age:

  • School certificate
  • or apprenticeship certificate with the apprenticeship contract indicating the amount of compensation
  • Medical certificate for disabled or chronically ill children who are unable to engage in paid work

Amount of family allowances:

  • Beneficiaries whose monthly salary or income is subject to social security contributions and is less than or equal to 15,000 DA:
    • From the first to the fifth child: 600 DA per month per child.
    • From the sixth child onwards: 300 DA per child per month.
  • Beneficiaries whose monthly salary or income is subject to social security contributions exceeding 15,000 DA: 300 DA per child per month.

The education allowance:

This allowance is paid to children aged over 6 and under 17 or 21 (children continuing their studies) on 1 September of the current year.

Amount of the education allowance:

  • Beneficiaries whose monthly salary or income is subject to social security contributions is less than or equal to 15,000 DA:

o From the first to the fifth child: 800 DA per child once a year.

o From the sixth child onwards: 400 DA per child once a year.

  • Beneficiaries whose monthly salary or income is subject to social security contributions exceeding 15,000 DA: 400 DA per child once a year.
